Promoting Passion Video Blog: New Year, New Blog & A Speed Edit!

Promoting Passion Video Blog: New Year, New Blog & A Speed Edit!

There is no way that I could start a new year without a new endeavor. Stagnation is the enemy and I want to constantly push myself in ways that I think will be better for me in the end. This new video is the first of many. They will be posted every Monday of this year, dealing with a new topic each week. Some will be educational, some silly, some serious, and all dealing with my passions in the hope that you will follow yours.

This new video is all about the new year. Admittedly I rambled a bit, but I wanted to speak from the heart and just put it all out there on this one. The others will be tighter though! So for this video we deal with a new year, new dreams and aspirations, and I share a photo that I created with those things in mind, including a speed edit of that image.

If you’ll share your new year’s resolutions with me I’d love to hear them because my biggest motivations in life included inspiration itself, and I just love hearing the motivations and dreams of others. Thank you for inspiring me now and always, I take that with me into the new year feeling like anything is possible.

  1. This is so lovely and warm, I like this idea and I think you made right decision! I also very like the part where you were talking about the diference between resoultions and dreams! Keep it up!

  2. Hi Brooke! Thank you for starting a new blog, it seems like its going to be a fun one to watch and follow and as always thank you for sharing and inspiring others so much in our industry.
I created a short videos yesterday that I shared on my personal facebook page about my goals for this next year, Its only a minute long so here is the link 🙂 God Bless and happy New Year!

    1. Thank you so much Tara! Can’t wait to watch the video, what a wonderful thing to do! So much love to you!

  3. I love this space you’ve created, Brooke! Thank you!

My resolution/dream for 2014 is to put my work out there more. I struggle with being overly critical of my work and have second thoughts right after I post or deliver, seeing things that could be improved. I want to let that go, still striving to be my best, but also knowing that others may like what’s already there.

    1. Thank you Donna! That is really appreciated 🙂

I think that resolution is just beautiful. One of the best things we can do for ourselves as individuals is to find inner peace and know that if we are okay with who we are, we must trust others to feel the same…and if they don’t, that is no concern of ours! I know that you will absolutely blossom in this resolution and I’ll be here 100% backing you!

  4. My dream in 2014 is to do more of what I want, and not so much what the client wants. I felt very uncreative the last month or so, but that was because I was doing the cookie cutter family photo’s, and not the type of photos that I truly love. So I ended last year doing a photo that had so much meaning to me, that it made me realize the direction that I want to take my photography, my business in this year. Thank you for all your inspiration!

    1. Rebecca, this is so inspiring to read. I hope that you’ll keep me posted about your progress. I am so excited for you and your journey. There is no better feeling than finally understanding what makes you tick. Please do share your new creations with me sometime, I’d love to be inspired!

  5. Thank you Brooke. One thing I can say this year is you have inspired me so much to show who I am and post “my other side” without reservations of being judged. I love you for that!

    xoxoxo
    Julie

    1. I LOVE YOU for that, Julie! I have been very inspired by watching your journey. Love always being sent to you 🙂

  6. Thank you for the inspiration, I look forward to your weekly video’s. Your work inspires me to take my dreams to reality. I aspire to create art portraits depicting the emotional and healing connections we have with animals and the life lessons we learn from them about our humanity and how we treat others. I love your art and your ability to tell a story with your compositions.

    1. Oh Hannah I just love that. What a beautiful thing to explore. I have a friend interested in a similar goal if you’d ever want a connection to chat about it! Thank you for being so kind <3

  7. Good Day Brook

I Realy, like in realy Love your work its something Amazing, to see your passion and feel it and see it and most of all to share it is Realy an Art. I will realy like to hear from you and have some questions if i may ask.Thank you so so so much.

    1. Thank you Maggie! If ever you have questions that I might be able to address in a weekly video let me know, I’m happy to do that 🙂

  8. I just have to give a little s/o to you Brooke. Your photography, videos and your spirit are a great inspiration to me and is a real motivator to push myself to create. I’ve been a follower for a long time, and although very unconfident I’m getting stronger a little each day to extend myself in photography. I’m actually terrified of bringing the images I have in my head to life because I don’t have social connections to find models, nor do I have the energy to go and photograph while putting my academics on the line. But thanks to you I’m starting to find the courage to bring them out, one by one. Thank you so much Brooke – I was smiling the whole way through this video you’ve made.

And since you’d like to know, one of the biggest dreams I have this year is to find romance 🙂 Being lonely is one of the biggest burdens in the world; and to find someone there to always have your back and support you is something that I’ve always wanted but never had. Someone to anchor me down somewhere, because I’m really scatter-brained – and to provide a sense of validation for me when none is heard. It’s a little embarrassing, but this is what keeps me going in life; trying to find the other half that seems to be missing (cheesy I know, but that’s me in a very tight nutshell).

    1. Val! I think you are just amazing. I am so happy that you’re putting yourself out there more and creating. The best feeling is seeing your imagination come to life. I just love it! Please keep me posted on your journey, I’d love to see what you work on this year and of course….if you find love….tell me about it!! Who doesn’t love a good love story 🙂 And remember that there is community everywhere who are just waiting to send you love and inspiration and encouragement 🙂

  9. Hi Brooke !
I usually never give comment because I’m kinda shy (yeah even behind my screen haha) but here I couldn’t not say anything.
I’ve only discovered you a few months ago and all I can say is I love your work ! It is always stunning, so creative, full of emotions. It just looks like nothing I’ve ever seen before. The ‘Wildfire” is truly one of my favorites !
Besides this blog and the videos are such a great idea ! You do inspire me, and I also admire your personality now. I will start thinking about my dreams over unmeaning resolutions. Wishing you the best for 2014 !
    Cindy, France.

    1. You are wonderful Cindy! I know how it feels to be shy and the computer is a great place to stay in the shadows, but I am so glad that you wrote a comment. You have brightened my day so much and I want you to know how touched I am. I can’t wait to see all that you do in 2014!

  10. Brooke, everyone has said it here in the comments, but all the same I would like to reiterate. You have no idea of the immensity of what you do. Your images are a reflection of you, such an amazing heart; inspiring! It’s hard not to get swept into your photos, your love for what you do Brooke is addictive and contagious. Your beautiful heart and nature are captivating, even your responses to people’s messages are beautiful

So I thank you for your honesty, passion and love for what you do, it is inspiring! Keep pursuing your dreams, I have a feeling you’ll find some just around the corner! God bless.

    1. Wow Paulie gosh…I am so speechless. Thank you for inspiring me with your kind words and lifting me up…a beautiful way to start the new year. I am so fortunate that you commented today, you’ve made my day! Happy 2014 to you!

  11. You truly are my favorite. I have a lot of photographer friends, and they are the kind that believe everything has to be done in camera, and a photo as natural as possible. I could never so this…. And when I found your work I got so excited because it made so much sense out of mine, and made me feel less intimidated to show it…. So thank you for all you do and for being my inspiration. Happy new year…. And I cannot wait to see all that you’ll do!

    1. Hi Heidi! Yes! It is so important that an artist do whatever is necessary to produce art. It is what we breathe! And if that requires some photoshop, so be it. It is no less art. Happy new year!

    1. Christie, that is great! How important it is to love yourself. Once you love yourself, others will follow – this I truly believe. I hope your journey is fulfilling!

  12. I discovered you by accident, but I immediately loved your work. Last year was, for me, a year of learning. Specially in photography. I admire your work so much, and then I saw you on Creative Live and found out you are vegan and other cool things about you.
Now, I am trying to create inspired by your creativity exercises and trying to let go of the fear, which is my worst enemy. Anyway, all I wanna say is that you are so inspiring, I hope to be not only as good as you, as photographer, but as a person.
You are an amazing human being.
    Happy new year!

    1. Kathleen, that is just awesome. I am so glad to hear that you are letting go of fear. That is something I am always working on, trying to be better. It is hard, but the most rewarding journey. I wish you so much fulfillment in 2014! And thank you, so so much, for being kind!!

  13. Brooke, thank you so much for sharing this with us. I’m always honored and thankful that you choose to give so much of yourself to your followers. I discovered your work mid-2013. Everything you’ve done has really spoken to me not just on an artistic level but also on a personal one. You’ve inspired me to do so much this year from getting out of my comfort zone when I shoot to creating a video of myself for your contest (and that was a huge deal to me because it really helped me over come a very real fear I had).

I think that is what really inspired my dream for this coming year. I don’t want fear to hold me back anymore. I still don’t do things because of what other people might think. Sometimes I pass up amazing locations because there’s a chance someone might see me shoot. Sometimes I scrap a concept because I’m afraid someone in my family won’t like what I have to say. I’m done with this. I want to take risks and live in the moment and stop worrying what everyone else thinks.

And I have you to thank for this. Thank you for teaching me so much in 2013. I can’t wait to see what you create in 2014.

    1. Oh Samantha, thank you so much. I cannot wait to see what you do with your amazing creativity. You have so much goodness in you, that I know and believe in truly, and if ever you feel like sharing your endeavors with me, I would be so thrilled to hear!

  14. Thank you for this Brooke! I woke up this new years day morning feeling a little depression and fear because of a horrible new years eve night. You have lifted my spirits and I now have a renewed vigor and hope that this will be a wonderful year in photography for me.
    Much love from Louisiana!

    1. Oh I am so glad to hear you are feeling lifted Charlotte. May you find so much peace and joy this year!

  15. My sweet Brooke. Your spark and a light drew me to you from the beginning…the moth to the flame, but instead of flying too closely and scorching my wings, I flew a little higher because of your support, love and light.

You’ve helped me to make my 2013 a year that is closer to my artistic dreams than I’d ever imagined. You have helped me to see and to find, to search and to lead.

Your influence has meant so very much to me my darling, and I hope you know…no…I hope you FEEL the love that radiates back to you. Thank you. A million thank yous, and a few heart felt hugs too.

    1. Oh Vanessa, you have been such an amazing positive force in my life. Thank you for being you, truly and always. I am so grateful to know you, get to watch your creative process, and spend time with you this year. Here’s to much more friendship and love.

  16. That was beautiful Brooke! I’m trying to work through my fears in 2014 because I have many goals and dreams to reach this year. I look forward to your future videos. Happy New Year!

    1. Hi Gina! I am so happy to hear that! I know you will go so far. I am constantly working through my own fears, and it feels great 🙂

  17. I just want to give you a HUGE hug Miss Brooke.

Is is wrong that you brought happy tears to me with your Promoting Passion video?

Let’s have brilliant fun dreams together this 2014.

    xxoxx

  18. I can hardly wait to get started.
    You have inspired me ,Brooke.
I only say that because, I see all kind of art and photography day in out. Yours stand out not only because of your incredible art work, but more for your deep passion for what you do.

    Thank you

  19. Your work is so special and inspiring, thank you for posting! I have one wish; could you please let the video of your prosess go a littebit slower, it is so interesting to see the way you`re working. Thank you!

    1. Thanks Hildegunn! Thank you so much! And if you’d ever want to come to a workshop to learn the editing process I’d love to have you! 🙂

  20. Thank you so much for being honest and open with the all of us…you are such an inspiration for me to keep pushing myself and to never give up on what I want to create. For 2014, I will start creating fine art photographs and get rid of the fear that I’m not good enough to do it. Thanks again for being so inspirational:)

My hope is that I will find myself more fulfilled creatively and give me more time to spend with my family. Thank you for continuing to not only share your work, but your passion as well – it’s infectious and Im so grateful. Here’s to a wonderful 2014 🙂

    1. Stacy!! I am so happy for you! I can’t wait until you tell me about all of your amazing adventures this year. I can’t wait for our paths to cross <3

  25. Thank you so much for sharing your dreams, your talent and your heart. Last year was a lot of trial and errors for me and unfortunately I allowed to bog me down. But by the end of 2013 I woke up and decided that this year I was going to step out of my comfort zone and believe in my ability to follow my passion, photography. I’m fairly new and have so much to learn, but no more excuses. Thanks for sharing and making me feel like I can achieve my dreams, goals and passion.

    Bright blessings,
    Kathy

    1. Kathy, that is so inspiring. I love hearing that you have no more excuses. They are so easy to come up with and so quickly block the good things in life. To push past fear is to truly find your passion and inspiration. I am so excited for you and your journey, I know it will be wonderful! Keep me posted on what you’re up to!

  26. Thank you SO much for starting your new blog ! I was so inspired by what you said about dreams !! Entertainingly seemed to click for me the moment after you said that ; My dream is to empower people to follow their dreams and realize their self worth through my own creative and artistic expression . Thank you for being so uniquely YOU and sharing so generously .

    1. Alison! Thank you SO much for saying such kind words. I really wish I could give you a huge hug right now. Right on for wanting to empower people!!!

  27. Hi Brooke! Have you ever thought about putting closed captions in your videos because it’d be very helpful for the deaf! Inspiring work like always!

    1. Hi Jennifer! Wow thank you so much for saying that. I hadn’t even considered it, and now I definitely will. Funny enough, I just recorded a video that is all text, just a coincidence but now I’m glad I did! I hope you’re well. You are always inspiring and I’m so glad to know you.

  28. I think your work is beyond beautiful. Actually, I found your work a few months back and you have inspired me to become a find art photographer myself. I’m now showing people my dreams through my own camera. I couldn’t thank you more. If you would ever consider becoming a mentor for a young photographer, please remember me! I hope you have a wonderful new year. Let’s take the wold by storm.

    facebook.com/abbigailspeiserphotography

    1. Abbigail, thank you so much and I have so many good wishes for you, that you take your creativity and soar!

  29. I interned with Lindsay for the better half of the year, I can’t tell you how much watching her make an image has inspired me – as an individual, and as a business!

My new years DREAM is to see my photos published in a magazine! I want to take my work and mass produce it, start selling it at fairs and markets, pay myself and completely orbit my art daily.

the way you and her give back to others is totally the reason you are so successful. The universe loves that! And I appreciate it so much!

    1. Thanks Jinette! Lindsay is seriously just an amazing inspiration. And the more you know her personally, the more inspirational she really is. I hope that you succeed at all of your dreams, and I believe you will!

  30. I love this!! You are such an incredible force – you make it all look so easy and attainable. Your new book is quickly becoming my favourite of all time! Thank you for being you 🙂

  31. Yes! Totally agree. I’ve very excited for this series. Since finding your work through CreativeLive I’ve been very inspired. While my style is not the same as yours your teaching, technique and philosophy speak very much to me and make the pieces of photography fit together for me and make sense. I applied to join in February. Horrible video. 🙂 but regardless I if I am chosen or not I will follow this, this year, and join you either in person or on the computer for your Master your Craft in Feb. Thank you!

    1. Krista thank you! Isn’t it great when ideas can transcend media?! I love learning from painters the most! I hope that we can meet in February! That would be just so amazing for me. Thank you for applying, and for writing!

  32. You are my biggest inspiration. This is a beautiful picture, you are so amazing at what you do and I look forward to watching your weekly videos. My goals for this year are to actually get my name out there as a photographer and to hopefully go to one of your workshops. Thank you for being such an inspiration and willing to show people your process it means a lot.

    1. Thank you so much Ashley! I believe truly that if you do what you love and you do it passionately, people can’t help to take notice. Happy new year!

  33. Hi Brooke
I love your work and it is beautiful. I would love to meet you one day. I am Deaf and am gutted that most your videos have no subtitles for me to access as equal to hearing people.

    xx

    1. Hi Jill! Thank you for writing! Yes this has been commented on and I will do my best to fix that in the future. It might take just a little bit of time since I’m very not tech savvy and don’t have help yet, but I’m going to do my absolute best!!

  34. Hi Brooke! Love your new blog and the space that you are creating for us all to be inspired and inspire! My dreams for this year is to build up my Fine Art portfolio in preparation for exhibition/s and decor shows. I have finally decided to pursue what I’ve actually always wanted to do with photography, and you have been such a huge influence! Thank you!

    1. That is an amazing dream Natascha! I am really glad that you’ll be pursuing your dreams and I can’t wait to see what happens. Keep me posted!

  35. Brooke, you have to be the sweetest and most inspiring person I have met. I am so glad that i got to take your workshop in NJ. You give others the courage to explore who they are and express it in ways they have never imagined. My dream for 2014 is to do just that. Explore, create, imagine. Thank you for all that you do.

    1. Hi Susan!! I am so grateful that I got to meet you last year. Thank you for being so kind and wonderful, you make my heart melt! I know your dreams will come true.

    1. Hi Charlie! Thank you so much!! And I am so glad to hear your dreams are doing just fine – good for you!

  37. Hi Brooke!
This is an amazing idea for a blog, I can’t wait to discover the new material and inspiring words every week! The most inspirational time for me in 2013 was when I watched your first creative Live course a couple months ago. Paradoxically, I remember not being able to pick up the camera for days after that, because I was afraid I would just end up copying your work. But after a few days, the original ideas just came flowing! And I have never been as photo-prolific as I am since then! Like right now, I’m at my grandma’s home in South Texas, and it’s on a beautiful piece of land. I’ve been coming here since I was a baby, and I have never felt so inspired by it than I am this year. I’m actually on my way to do my first self-portrait shoot! So Thank you Brooke, for sharing so much of yourself through your art and through your words. You are a true inspiration.
    Jen

    1. Oh Jen! These words you’ve written have really touched me. To hear about your inspiration is as inspired as I can get, so selfishly, thank you!! I cannot wait to see what you come up with for a self-portrait, should you want to share. <3

    2. Maraming slaamt brooke! mahal kita (our language) means thank you very much! love you brooke 🙂 Keep ispiring evryone! My birthday wish is to have a shoot with you hopefully! keeping my fingers crossed 🙂

  38. Incredible video, Brooke! I am so excited to follow your video blog! You have always been an inspiration! Good luck in all of your endeavors.

    1. I hope so! You’re my inspiration actually. And now im not afraid toi take risks, embrace challenges and love photography. thank you soo much brooke because you open my eyes in doing fine art photography. 🙂

  39. I’ve loved your work since I first saw it a few years back. My goal this year in photography is to tackle a composite like yours. Thank you for the inspiration and courage to try

    1. Hi Karen! I think you will absolutely rock a composite and I can’t wait to see…I hope you’ll share! Xo!

  40. Dearest Brooke, this is absolutely amazing. People love you, not only because of your amazing work, but also for all of the energy you put into giving people back love and inspiration. This new community will probably be a giant pit of ideas and inspiration!

You’ve helped me use my imagination to the fullest – at eighteen years old I’m creating photographies that I never imagined possible. I can’t thank you enough!

    1. Hi Sonja! Wow thank you for saying that….that is absolutely so kind of you and now I feel energized by your words. I hope that your new year is filled with amazing dreams!

  41. Hi Brooke!
I am so excited about your new blog! Thank you for being so willing to share your creativity and passion with all of us! Your generosity of spirit is such a joy!

You have been such an encouragement to me as I find my photographic voice.

Back in May, I was getting ready to photograph my first wedding (as a second shooter) and my first prom and I was petrified. That very weekend, I saw you on CreativeLive and your teaching gave me the confidence to get out there and do the best job I could. And everything went great!

I will always be grateful to you and look forward to seeing all that you have to offer in the new year! Happy 2014!

    Blessings,
    Susan

    1. Hi Susan! That is the best story!! I am so glad to hear that you’ve found confidence and you are pushing forward to big and great things 🙂 Happy new year!

  42. Thank you so much Brooke.

I love your work, I love your photos, I love your style – and I adore so-so much the way you live and share…

Thank you for all and looking forward to Mondays! 🙂

Have a start of as much fun as you desire! 😉

    Judit

  43. First of all, I LOVE your work. I got your new book for Christmas and had to open it up immediately. Your kindness and generosity are so inspiring. This year, I plan on going after what I want instead of just sitting around waiting for it to come to me. I also have several stylized shoots that I would love to do and am going to do. Thanks so much for sharing!

    1. Tina, thank you! I am so glad to hear that you are embracing a new year with vibrancy and I can’t wait to see what you do!

  44. My dream for 2014 is to create a better routine for myself when it comes to working on my own. I need to exercise more in order to find a better health, and I want to find a good balance between things in my life. I also have a dream of being more in the nature, simply because it makes me feel whole and happy. Photography-wise I feel like I should push myself even more and get out of my comfort zone in order to create what I truly want! 🙂

Looking forward to a new year in this community!!! I hope your start of this year will be great!! <3

    1. Beata! That is wonderful. I love hearing your dreams of 2014. I should adopt some of them! Happy new year!

  45. Hi Brooke,
Love your new art piece! I hope to join you as a member of the studio audience at creativeLive in February. I have my application in!
I am a pet photographer so I’m not sure if that can be further from your genre but I have been inspired by your work. My goal is to expand my creativity and create something that I have not seen in my area of photography. I find your work exciting and I want to do the same for my pieces. I’ve created a couple of photographs using this new mindset and I’m excited by the work. Thanks!

  46. Hi Brooke,
Thank you!!!, thank you so much for all you do! You are a amazing person and I am so happy of your work and what you do because not only inspire me to be a better artist, but also a better person. And you do not know how it helps me to watch you and see that you are happy doing what you love!

My dream for this year is not being a insecure person and to do my best to express in my photos what I feel.

    Have a nice day! 🙂
    Cathy

    1. Oh Cathy, you have just given me such a gift with these words. I am so glad to hear that you are moving forward and pursuing dreams. How wonderful 🙂 Happy new year!

  47. Your very presence is inspiring, let alone that incredible work you create. May I tell you that my oldest daughter is also named Brooke. She’s 10.

Clearly my dream for 2014 needs to involve pinpointing where my passion actually IS … what an odd thing to consider … my motherhood journey is my greatest joy and a bottomless pit of energy-sapping. I think I’ve gotten a bit lost in there somewhere.

    1. Hi Miriam! I understand what you say – it can be so hard to find yourself when there are so many others to take care of. I know you will find that one thing that propels you forward and I want to hear all about it when you do.

      Yay to Brookes!! hehe 🙂

  48. Just wanted to stop in and say hi and thank you for being willing to share and help inspire all of us photographers reaching for our dreams. Your truly a brave hero to me! May your 2014 year be amazing sweet friend 🙂

  49. Hi Brooke,
You are such an inspiration. I feel like I’ve been stuck in a rut for quite sometime now. For 2014 my dream is to let go of thoughts that hold me back from expressing myself, be present in the moment & draw inspiration from it. I’ve always been a dreamer and a creative thinker, but once I became a Mom, it’s like all that was put on hold. I now know where to find my inspiration again. My Daughter & the imagination I had as a child when anything was possible. Thank you!!

  50. I just soak up all your passion and your ‘hippy-ness’ seriously, there are only a handful of genuine photographers out there who wish to share, inspire and give back. EVERYTHING you are doing is what I have thought about – but never moved on. Could be lazy, could be critical of myself, could be fear, could be I am ADHD and can never stay with one idea until it is complete – who knows but 2014 is my year to move on those dreams (teaching, healing others and myself with my work, and getting my work out in the public eye more often) So thank you for being you and in a way giving me permission to just shoot and create what I need to. (Yea, photography is my healing/growing tool and you were just added to my toolbox ha ha)

    1. Kimberley, you are so awesome for sharing that. I think that everyone has those things holding them back but not everyone will admit it or move past it. I wish you so much good fortune this year and I can’t wait to see how you grow!

    2. whoops sorry I posted in the wrong spot… eeeep. Step one of getting out there was submitting an image to your 2013 best of, and step 2 is your CL session in Feb, once I get my voice back I will be submitting. 😉 Blessings (please delete my boo boo entry if you find it DOH)

  51. I love this! I have been working on my composites and while I am no where near as good as you in photoshop, I hope to learn more this year. 53. Hi, Brooke I’m so exited about your new blog, I was reading your definitions of success on your 1st blog and it was a big help, speacially now that I’m really getting into my photography business, my style is completely different from yours but I love getting inspired by you, your are very passionate, creative, and positive person. I can tell lots of good things are coming out of this blog for you as well as many persons like me.

Thanks for being who you are.

  54. Thank you for sharing this. I am so incredibly inspired by all of your work as a young photographer. I often notice that I am limiting myself for whatever reason — whether it is a lack of resources or access to locations, and I understand now that I may be looking for reasons to avoid shooting. Maybe I don’t want to try new things, because what I have done before always has been met with good feedback. Your surreal photos take my breath away. Your editing process is really quite incredible and you’re ability to be in touch with yourself is more than admirable. While I don’t want to solely depend on photoshop to create my photos for me (and I am in no way suggesting that this is what you do), I have realized that photoshop can create wonderful things — it allows your imagination to run wild and the possibilities of visual composition to be endless — if you don’t have the dress you need, you can take a photo and paste it in. If the background isn’t as you want it to be, you can adjust it.

We do have to be careful though I believe, and ensure that the usage of photoshop is still your work, your photography. If we depend on it to much, we can become reliant on it, and lazy, thinking that if we need something we can just paste it in.

Thank you for sharing your experiences with us and I wish you the best.
